A man was suffering from insomnia. He couldn’t sleep due to the crowing of the rooster in his neighbour’s house. One day he complained to his neighbour, “All through the night I have been lying awake. The crowing of your rooster doesn’t let me sleep.”
The neighbour looked at him in surprise and said, “Well, all of us in my house sleep well at night. The rooster is in our house, but he doesn’t disturb us. Anyways, it never crows throughout the night, it does so only at the break of dawn and that too only twice or thrice.”
The man said, “Yes, I know that it crows only two or three times at dawn, but all night long, I keep thinking of it and wait for it to crow!”
The man’s loss of sleep was not due to the rooster announcing the break of day, it was due to his own imagination working overtime! So too, many of us suffer from the apprehension of things that may happen. We think if I do this, then this is what can go wrong. If I do that, then that is what can go wrong! How much harm the fears have caused, that have never happened? It is said that a worried convict, dies a thousand deaths, before he reaches the gallows!
Think positive, have faith that God will protect you, but don’t forget that He will do so only, when you surrender to Him. Live an honest and upright life. Remember that Truth has no fear but untruth shivers at every shadow!
